A static site with no accounts and no server database

How ORBIT handles data: display settings saved locally in your browser, optional location and device-orientation access, and third-party services such as Google AdSense, Google Analytics, and Vercel Analytics.

01 / Overview

What we collect

ORBIT doesn't require an account, and no form on the site collects your name, email, or other identifying information. The whole site is built as static files with no backend server, so there is no database storing user data.

02 / Local information

Information stored in your browser

Display settings

Preferences such as orbit lines, labels, texture quality, and true-scale mode are saved in your browser's local storage (localStorage). They're used only to remember your choices and are never sent to a server.

Location and device orientation

Ground-sky view, sunrise/sunset times, and local sky-event visibility use your browser's location and device-orientation APIs, only after you grant permission. This information is used solely for on-device calculations — ORBIT never collects, uploads, or stores it.

Offline cache

As a progressive web app, ORBIT caches some pages, scripts, and textures in your browser to support offline browsing. This cache also stays on your own device.

03 / Third-party services

Third-party services we use

The following services are operated independently by Google and Vercel; each one's data handling is governed by its own privacy policy:

Google AdSense

ORBIT shows ads through Google AdSense to help cover running costs. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to show ads based on your interests; you can review or turn off ad personalization here: Google Ads Settings

Google Analytics

Some deployments of this site may enable Google Analytics to measure overall traffic, using measurement cookies when active. It's off by default, and enabling it is a per-deployment choice.

Vercel Web Analytics

Used to measure anonymous, aggregate usage — such as page views and feature-usage counts. It doesn't use cookies and doesn't attempt to identify you.

04 / Your choices

What you can do

You can manage this at any time:

05 / Children's privacy

Children's privacy

ORBIT is a general-audience astronomy education site. It isn't directed at children, and we don't knowingly collect personal information from children.

06 / Changes to this policy

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time to reflect changes to the site or applicable law. Updates are published directly on this page, with the date above revised accordingly.
